Career Goals
I was a law student and an assistant manager for my father souvenir at a
gift shop in Saigon, Vietnam (1970-1974). My life was changed when I must escaped
out of my country and come to live in America (1975).
I am currently a part-time student at the University of Maryland University College.
The career that I choose to pursue is in Computer and Information Science and
Information System Management. By going into this career, I will learn how to
evaluate, select, and use computer hardware, software programs. The reason why I
chose this career is because I am very interested in computers and how they function.
Since I had a computer at home, I was used to working with them. Also, in the
present time I am working as Grants Technical Assistant at Center for Scientific Review,
National Institutes of Health. I have applied Database Management, Microsoft Word,
IMPAC and LAN network system, and Internet in my job. Learning and applying are the
most vital elements in my career and I really enjoy making a contribution for my
organization.
My short-term goals are to finish my present classes, study hard and learn more about
my future career. In the long run, I feel that I will finish my Bachelor degree and
find a better job that fits my needs at the work place and at home. My philosophy is that
you are never too old to learn and receive a good education. So far, I am doing fine
because my husband and my children support me. I instruct myself never to give up
and keep trying to achieve my goal.
Considering and planning for my long-term goal. I always try to think ahead about
how to finish my courses and receive my major in Computer and Information Science.
It might be few years from now, and it is a long way to go, but that is the dream that I
must pursue to reach my goal. Of course, I always need my husband and my children to
encourage me for this coming ambition.
In conclusion, the road to achieving a goal is a long road, which requires a lot of
work, perseverance, and desire. I should know, because I am still on that road that
never seems end. I intend to pursue my career and face all obstacles brought forth
because achieving my goal is one of the most important things in my life. Dealing
with these obstacles will be tough but I am ready for the challenge. I look at it is
as another rock on the road that will be broken eventually. It is not a question
that if I can do it rather that if I have the desire to do it. Like Martin Luther
King Jr." speech of " I Have a Dream" that inspire many, I also have a
dream. It might be different than Mr. Kings but it is just as important.
Since he made his dream come true, I know I can make my dream come true. As
the saying goes: " Success is not searching for you, you must do the seeking."
